Sungai Merbok Mangrove Tour
Merbok River is a mangrove forest river located in the state of Kedah. The mangrove forest that flanks the river is a rich habitat for an amazing biodiversity of flora and fauna. This unique mangrove consists of 40 out of 60 species of mangrove in the world. This tour will bring you on an exciting and fun adventure as you explore the Merbok River’s attractions.
Firstly, you will visit to the Semeling Jetty Complex. There is a gallery that showcases the treasures of flora and fauna that can be found in the Merbok Biosphere.
There is also an information centre in the area. After a short tour around, your guide will take you to the mangrove site to explain about the mangrove eco-system. It stretches as far as 3,000 hectares, Sungai Merbok has amazing displays of natures. One of the 40 species of mangrove at Merbok River is known as “Bruguiera hainesii” and has been listed as a “critically endangered species” which can only be found in Malaysia, Singapore and Papua New Guinea. You will be able to see mangroves flanking on the two sides of the river and witness the unique ecosystem. You can also learn more about the eco-system of the mangrove biosphere and how the process of rehabilitation and restoration are being carried out.
